ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The Concordia Clippers women's basketball team traveled to Molloy College on Wednesday evening for a non-conference game against the Lions. Concordia was unable to capture their first victory of the season as Molloy edged the Clippers, 55-52.
Concordia would trail early in the first quarter, 7-3, as it would be a low scoring period for both sides. The Clippers managed to keep the deficit at only four points after 10 minutes of action as the Lions led 11-7.
In the second quarter Molloy scored five unanswered points to open up a nine point advantage. From here, Concordia would slowly cut into the deficit and ended the period with a 5-0 run of their own to trail 20-18 at halftime.
The Clippers would tie the score at 20-20 in the third quarter before the Lions opened up a five point lead. A 6-0 run by Concordia would give them a one point advantage at the 5:38 mark. Both sides would battle to control the scoreboard for the remainder of the period as Molloy wold lead by a point, 35-34, after three quarters.
The Lions began the fourth quarter with a 9-2 run to lead 44-36 at the 7:13 mark. Back-to-back three-point baskets for the Clippers would allow them to get within two points as Molloy answered right back with a 4-0 run to lead 48-42 with 4:26 to go. Concordia would get to within four at the 17 second mark, but were unable to complete the comeback as the Lions held on for the 55-52 victory.
Senior Lyric Blanch (Kingston, N.Y.) led the Clippers with 15 points as she also added five rebounds while senior Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) added 13 points and three rebounds. Freshman Jordyn Hornbuckle (Hopkinsville, Ky.) recorded a career-high 11 rebounds.
Concordia (0-3) will next visit #12 Queens (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon in Flushing, N.Y.
