OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Concordia College women's basketball team kicked off their 2015-16 season on Monday evening with a non-conference game at NYIT. The Clippers were unable to come away with a victory at Recreation Hall as the Bears secured a 79-35 win.
NYIT began the first quarter with seven straight points as Concordia would use an 8-3 run to get within three points at 12-9 with 5:16 to go. The Bears would then score seven straight points to end the quarter as the Clippers were held scoreless and trailed 19-9 after 10 minutes of play.
The second quarter had NYIT continue their momentum, scoring six straight points until Concordia broke their scoring drought at the 7:52 mark. The Bears would use another 6-0 run later in the quarter to hold a 34-16 advantage with 3:17 remaining on the clock as NYIT capped the half with seven unanswered points to go into the locker room with a 43-20 lead.
In the third quarter the Clippers were held scoreless until the 7:07 mark as the home team began the quarter with five straight points. The Bears would use a 10-0 to open up a 62-24 advantage as Concordia ended the half with five of the last nine points but trailed 66-29. Concordia managed only six points in the fourth quarter including being held scoreless for the final 4:59 of the game as NYIT secured a 79-35 win.
Junior Jessica Rosalbo (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the Clippers with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field as she also added four rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Sophomore Julianne Wilkinson (Red Hook, N.Y.) added eight points as sophomore Hadiyah Black (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the team with seven rebounds.
Concordia (0-1) will next visit Dominican College (N.Y.) for their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game.
