Clippers Come up Short in Opening Game of ESU Classic, 52-44 Against Virginia Union

East Stroudsburg, Pa. – The Clippers women's basketball team traveled to participate in the ESU Classic hosted by East Stroudsburg University this weekend. Concordia would open the tournament with a matchup against Virginia Union as the Panthers took a 52-44 victory in their first ever meeting on Saturday evening.

The Clippers began the game falling behind in the opening minutes but got within two points at 16-14 with 12:17 left in the opening period. Over a six minute span neither team would score until a basket by Concordia stopped the drought and the Clippers would take their first lead of the game at 19-18. Concordia would finish the half strongly as they went into the locker room with a 25-22 lead.

Virginia Union would open the second half scoring nine unanswered points as the Clippers scored their first points at the 16:16 mark. The Panthers would take a double-digit lead midway through the period as Concordia was unable to mount a comeback, falling 52-44.

Senior Krystina Agard (Queens, N.Y.) and sophomore Alyssa Dawson (Westwood, N.J.) both led the Clippers with nine points apiece. Agard would add a game-high 13 rebounds while matching a team-high of four assists and three steals. Sophomore Mariah Berry (Southington, Conn.) came off the bench to score eight points in 17 minutes of action as Virginia Union held a 24-10 advantage on points in the paint.

Concordia (0-6, 0-2 CACC) will next face the host of the ESU Classic, East Stroudsburg University. Both teams will take to the court of the Koehler Fieldhouse at 3pm as fans can follow the action via the Live Stats link on
