Albany, NY – The Concordia College Clippers women's basketball team faced off against non-conference foe St. Rose College in their first game of the season this evening. The Clippers traveled to the state capital for the St. Rose Tournament. The Golden Knights were able to win 58-34 in the first game of the season for both teams.
St. Rose began on a 19-4 run in the first eight minutes which allowed them to take control of the game from the tipoff. The Clippers would begin to cut into the lead as they outscored the Golden Knights 19-11 to end the half.
With Concordia only down by seven points to begin the second half, the Clippers came out of the locker room ready to cut into the lead and get back into the game. St. Rose would stop any chance of a comeback as the Golden Knights went on a 10-0 in a span of under seven minutes to extend their lead early in the half.
Missed shots by Concordia allowed St. Rose to keep their lead which the Clippers were unable to cut into. The Golden Knights outscored Concordia 28-11 in the second half to secure their first win of the season, 58-34.
Junior Krystina Agard (Queens, NY) led the Clippers with 13 points on 4-of-12 shooting from the field. Senior Chanessa Blakemore (Albany, NY) led the team with 10 rebounds, three blocks and three steals. As a team, Concordia shot 22% (13-of-59) from the field while allowing 13 second chance points. The bench for St. Rose outscored the Clippers' bench 16-6.
Concordia (0-1, 0-0 CACC) will next face Queens (NY) tomorrow afternoon. The Clippers will take the court at 12pm as they look to earn their first win of the season in their final match at the St. Rose Tournament.
