Concordia (N.Y.) Cross-Country Feeling Positive After Baruch Invitational

Bronx, N.Y. – The Concordia (N.Y.) Clippers cross-country teams were in action on Sunday as they ran in the Baruch Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park. The women finished in 10th place overall and the men finished in 11th.

The men ran in the 8K event led by freshman Wendall Cory Brown who finished with a time of 34:44, placing in 45th overall in his first collegiate race. Corey Grosskopf and James Ebersole finished second and third for Concordia at 36:03 and 36:40 respectively. Martin Miedzowicz placed only a few seconds behind Ebersole at 36:56 while freshman Daniel Koehler finished his first collegiate race with a time of 38:38.

In the women's 6K race, senior Shelley Monahan finished in 11th place overall in her first collegiate race with a time of 30:04 to lead the Clippers. Katherine Spreitzer finished in 56th place with a personal time of 36:44 while Rita Boateng finished third overall for Concordia at 47:29. Ashley Ledesma and Jasmine McDonald rounded out the times for the Clippers finishing at 55:46 and 55:47 respectively.

"I am very proud of Shelley and Wendall who both led our teams in their first collegiate race" stated Head Coach Anthony Vaglica. "Katie had a solid showing and signs of being someone to build the team around and Rita had her highest finish on the team since joining."

Coach Vaglica notices many positives from the Clippers' first race of the season and knows that they will improve as the season continues. "Wendall had a strong opening collegiate race to lead the men" he continued. "The highlight for the women was Shelley receiving a medal in her first meet."

The women will next race on Saturday, September 17th in the Valiant Invitational hosted by Manhattanville College. The race is set to begin at 10am. The men will compete on Sunday in the Queensborough Cross Country Invitational back at Van Cortlandt Park. Their race will begin at 10:45am.
