Clippers Women's Volleyball Falls to Nyack in CACC North Division Showdown, 3-0

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Concordia Clippers women's volleyball team hosted Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division showdown in the Meyer Athletic Center on Friday evening. Concordia was unable to earn their first win of the season as the Warriors took a 3-0 victory.

Nyack jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first set as the Clippers responded with a 5-1 run to hold the advantage. Neither team could gain a sizable advantage as the largest lead for either side was two points. The Warriors would end the set on a 6-2 run to edge Concordia, 25-21, and take the first set.

In the second set it would be the Clippers who took a 7-3 lead as Nyack called a timeout to regroup. Concordia would maintain a 10-5 advantage as the Warriors used a 7-1 run to take a 12-11 lead. The Clippers regained their advantage after five unanswered points and increased their lead to 23-18 in the latter part of the set. Nyack responded with a 4-0 run to trail at a point, 23-22, as Concordia scored the next point to set up set point. The Clippers could not close out the set as the Warriors rallied with four unanswered points to take a 26-24 victory and a 2-0 set advantage.

Concordia came out trailing in the third set, 8-2, as the Clippers slowly chipped away at the deficit. After Nyack held a 21-13 lead, Concordia used a 9-2 run to get back into the set at 23-22. The Warriors closed out the set with back-to-back points as Nyack took the third set, 25-22, and earned the 3-0 match victory.

Freshman Kiakahi Vaioleti (Manoa, Hawaii) led the Clippers tying her career-best of eight kills as she also tied freshman Alana Rousset-Hernandez (Canovanas, Puerto Rico) with eight digs on the defensive end. Sophomore Bianca Ortiz (Ponce, Puerto Rico) finished the match with a season-high 27 assists.

Concordia (0-8, 0-6 CACC) will be on the road tomorrow afternoon for a CACC match at Chestnut Hill. First serve in Philadelphia, Pa. is set for 1 p.m. as fans unable to attend can follow the match by clicking on the live stats and video links under the women's volleyball schedule page on
