Concordia Wins Final Match of the Season, 3-2 over Felician

Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College Clippers women's volleyball team faced Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Felician College for their final match of the 2011 season. The Clippers, who also honored their three seniors in tonight's lineup, won the match 3-2 for their seventh win of the season.

In the first two sets, the Clippers jumped out to big leads in what looked like an easy matchup. Concordia held the Golden Falcons to only 13 points in the first set and 17 in the second set as they took a 2-0 advantage.

In the third set, Felician would attempt a comeback as the team was still looking for their first win of the season. The Golden Falcons held a seven point lead near the end of the third set and after some well-executed attacks by their front line, Felician held on for a 25-23 set win.

The fourth set saw the Clippers fall behind but they managed to tie the game at 12-12 midway through the set. A span of errors by Concordia allowed the Golden Falcons to take a slight advantage late in the game. Two straight kills by Felician gave them a 25-23 set victory to send the match into a fifth and final game to determine the winner.

Early in the last set, both teams traded points until the Clippers managed to take a three point lead at 12-9. Concordia held a two point cushion on the Golden Eagles and trading points would allow them to secure the final set, 15-12, and hold Felician winless on the year.

Amanda Margedant (La Habra Heights, CA) and Juliann Gillespie (Clarkston, MI) led the Clippers' offense with 16 kills apiece. Hillary Hoffman (East Meadow, NY) recorded 24 assists and Alicia Vogel (Huntington Beach, CA) added 20 assists while Gillespie finished with a team-high nine digs on the defensive end for Concordia.

The Clippers (7-19, 7-12 CACC) fell just one game short of securing a playoff spot this season. Gillespie led the team with 175 kills while Hoffman recorded 557 assists and 217 digs for the year.
