Clippers Complete Comeback with 3-2 Victory over Post
Bronxville, NY – The Concordia College Clippers women's volleyball team were looking to continue their recent two-game winning streak as they welcomed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Post University this evening. After being down 2-1, the Clippers made a comeback to win their fifth conference win of the season, 3-2.
The first set saw both sides battling to gain and early advantage. Late in the set Post held a 23-21 lead and Concordia went on a 4-0 run to close out the set, taking an early lead in the match. The Eagles would bounce back to tie the match as Post only managed to gain a slim lead the entire second set. The Clippers fell 25-18 as the match would now be a best of three sets.
During the third set, both teams were unable to gain a substantial lead. The largest lead in the first half of the set was only one point. After the Eagles took a 21-18 lead, Concordia called a timeout to regroup. The break would not stop Post's momentum as they went on to take a 25-20 third set victory and a 2-1 lead in the match.
Concordia would not allow the Eagles to win the fourth set as the Clippers jumped out to a big lead. Midway through the set, Post was within two points of overtaking the lead but Concordia knew that they had to win the set. The Clippers ended the fourth set on a 10-3 run to force a fifth and final set with the 25-16 victory.
Post jumped out to an 8-5 lead in the final set forcing Concordia to take a timeout and figure out how to stop the Eagles' front line. A 4-0 run by the Clippers allowed them to take the lead as Post called a timeout. The Eagles would retake the lead as they led 14-12, only one point away from victory.
A service error by Post allowed Concordia to have a chance at victory. Two straight blocks by the Clippers' front line gave them a one point lead. The match would end on an attacking error by the Eagles as Concordia secured their third straight win.
Junior Juliann Gillespie (Clarkston, MI) led the Clippers' offense with 15 kills while senior Amanda Margedant (La Habra Heights, CA) added 12 kills. Sophomore Hillary Hoffman (East Meadow, NY) recorded 45 assists while sophomore Irina Impellittiere (Cold Spring, NY) recorded 16 digs on the defensive end for Concordia.
The Clippers (5-16, 5-10 CACC) will travel to Holy Family on Saturday, October 22nd as the CACC match will begin at 12pm in Philadelphia, PA.
