Clippers finish out season with win over Georgian Court
The Clippers hosted the Georgian Court University Lions today to finish out their 2010 season. The Clippers made their presence known from the beginning as they dominated with an opening few points. The Lions struggled as the Clippers went on several service runs including ones by Hillary Hoffman and Alicia Vogel. The Clippers stayed ahead of the Lions throughout the first set and finished it off with a Juliann Gillespie kill.
The second set had the Clippers momentum rolling but the Lions showed their pride and started to attack back. Back and forth the points went with each team taking their short leads away from the other. With the score at 23-23 it was either teams game. An error by the Clippers gave the Lions the set point and the Lions finished out the set tying the match up at 1-1.
The Lions took the early lead in the third set 7-4. The Clippers then started their service run with an Olivia Thompson kill. The Clippers took the lead to go up 11-8. The Lions roared back but the Clippers held their lead strong with the help of Irina Impellitiere, Amanda Margedant, and Chelsea Zurcher's attacking skills. The Clippers finished out the set to take the 2-1 match lead.
The fourth set saw another start of a back and forth battle. The Lions took small leads and the Clippers worked their way back to tie the game. The trend continued through 18-18. With a back row kill from Juliann Gilliespie the Clippers took the lead. The Clippers held their lead all the way through 24-20. The Lions then held the Clippers off four times from collecting the match to tie the game up at 24-24. The Clippers forced a Lion error to gain another match point and then worked hard on the last point. With an error by the Lions the Clippers earned their match point and finished out the season with a 3-1 match win.
The Clippers finish out their season 6-17 overall and 6-13 in the CACC.
