Box score

Bronxville, NY - Clippers get first win of season and CACC

The Clippers hosted the Felician College Golden Falcons tonight in a CACC match-up.  The last time the Clippers and the Golden Falcons met up was back in September as the Golden Falcons defeated the Clippers in three.  Tonight would be a different ball game entirely.

The Clippers and the Golden Falcons squared off during the first set.  As the Clippers took a small lead the Golden Falcons fought back and would tie the game.  The Clippers worked hard together out hitting the Golden Falcons 12 to 8 in kills.  The Clippers pulled ahead to take a last service lead and win the first set 25-21.

The Clippers continued their good fortune into set two as they took the early lead.  With the Clippers building upon their lead the continued their offensive moves with 10 kills in the set.  The Golden Falcons tried to come into the game but were unable to cut the lead that the Clippers built.  The Clippers took set two 25-19.

With the beginning few points going back and forth in the third set either one would break off on a run and take the first lead.  Amanda Margedant stepped back behind the service line and allowed the Clippers to take the first lead of the set and take the first step toward their first match victory.  The Golden Falcons came screeching in and took the lead away from the Clippers.  With two sets already on their belt and needing just one more for their first match win the nerves hit and the Clippers started to struggle a little on serve receive.  The Golden Falcons saw this and took advantage and stole the third set from the Clippers 25-20.

The fourth set began like the others, with the Clippers taking the first lead.  The Golden Falcons called a quick time-out and came back into the game tying the game up at 6-6.  The Clippers called their first time-out trying to freeze the Golden Falcons server and the time-out freeze worked.  The Clippers battled a little back and forth but the Golden Falcons went on a run and took the lead to 11-7 before the Clippers would call their last time-out of the set.  Trying to freeze the Golden Falcon server once again was the motive but that was unsuccessful as the Golden Falcons scored two more points.  With the Clippers down 16-9 Dana St. Cyr headed back to the service line.  The Clippers fought their way back one point at a time.  With the help of Dana St. Cyr's service game and Olivia Thompson's service game the Clippers found themselves tied with the Golden Falcons at 18-18.  Each team battled back and forth across the net.  The Clippers took the next lead and were at set and match point.  The Golden Falcons fought back once again to 24-24.  The Clippers earned the next point giving them a fourth set and match point.  With a kill from Alicia Oberle the Clippers sealed the set and the match.

This win is the first for the Clippers this season along with the first win in the CACC for them as well.  Coach Patrick Dietz also earns his first collegiate career win.

Courtney Hanson and Olivia Thompson put up double-doubles with 10 kills each and 11 digs and 12 digs respectively.  Amanda Margedant had her third double-double in a row with 42 set assists and 12 digs.  Amanda Byrd put up 20 digs.  Alicia Oberle led in kills with 11 kills while Chelsea Zurcher had 10 kills and 4 total blocks for the match.

The Clippers will head to Caldwell College on Thursday, October 29th for a 7:00pm match.
