New Haven, CT - Clipper Volleyball drops two in opening matches.

The Concordia College (New York) Clippers volleyball opened their season up with a tri match at Southern Connecticut State University. 

The Clippers faced off against the New York Institute of Technology in their first game of the tri match.  The Clippers struggled at first with finding their rhythm as they opened their season.  The Clippers dropped a tough first set 25-8.  Game two proved as an improvement as the Clippers were able to hang with NYIT including a service run by Dana St. Cyr late in the set to bring the Clippers within five points.  The Clippers were then shut down and dropped the second set 25-19.  The Clippers faced the third set with continuing struggles against the tough service game of NYIT and dropped the third set 25-8.

The Clippers then faced off against host Southern Connecticut State University.  The Clippers once again faced off against a tough serving team.  The Clippers attempted to climb back but were closed off and fell the Southern Connecticut in the first set 25-12.  Continuing to face tough service games the Clippers were unable to cut the leads that Southern Connecticut created for themselves in the rest of the match.  The Clippers fell in the second set 25-14 and in the third set 25-11. 

Alicia Oberle and Olivia Thompson each produced 8 kills on the day with Courtney Hanson right behind them with 7 kills.  Dana St. Cyr had 3 service aces while Amanda Byrd had 17 digs with Amanda Margedant had 8 digs. 

The Clippers will next face off at the College of St. Rose on September 8, 2009 at 7:00pm.
