Gillespie Paces Clippers to 3-0 Win

Rutherford, NJ - Freshman Juliann Gillespie (Clarkston, MI) pounded down a match high 15 kills to lead the Clippers to a 3-0 victory over the Golden Falcons of Felician College yesterday in Rutherford, NJ. Game scores were 25-12, 25-18 and 25-16.

Concordia used a 6 point scoring run in the first set to race out to a 15-4 lead. The Clippers hit a season's best .333 (12 kills, 3 errors, 27 attempts) in the first set, while holding Felician to - .179 (5 kills, 10 errors, 28 attempts).

 

 

Concordia broke open a 18-18 tie in the second set by scoring the final seven points. Freshman Alicia Oberle (Savannah, GA) spiked home the set point for the Clippers. Oberle finished with 5 kills and 3.5 blocks. The score was tied 15-15 in the final set, when Concordia scored 10 of the last 11 points to close out the match.

Freshman Jaymee Wise (Irvine, CA) had a double-double for Concordia, registering 24 assists and 15 digs to go along with 5 service aces. Sophomore Amanda Byrd (Clarkston, MI) and freshman Amanda Margedant (La Habra Heights, CA) finished with 16 digs and 14 digs, respectively.

For the Golden Falcons, Laura Peskosky had a team high 7 kills and C.C. Cousins added 4 kills. Megan DeLamater dished out 14 assists and had 6 digs.

The Clippers improve to 1-4 on the season, while Felician College falls to 0-5 overall.

Concordia will return to the court on Thursday, September 4th, as they travel to Bloomfield, NJ to take on the Deacons of Bloomfield College in a non-conference match-up. The match will begin at 7:30 PM.
