Clippers Drop Two at USP
Philadelphia, PA - The Concordia College volleyball team lost two tough matches at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia this past Saturday afternoon. Concordia started the day with a 3-2 loss to the Caldwell College Cougars. Set scores were 25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 12-25 and 13-15. The Clippers followed that performance with a 14-25, 22-25, 10-25 loss to the host Devils of USP.
Against the Cougars, freshman outside hitters Amanda Margedant (La Habra Heights, CA) and Juliann Gillespie (Clarkston, MI) led the offense with a combined 23 kills. Margedant finished with a match high 13 kills and tied a season high 18 digs. Gillespie added 10 kills and 10 digs. Freshman middle blocker Alicia Oberle (Savannah, GA) finished with a season high 23 digs, to go along with 8 kills, 2 service aces and 2 solo blocks. Sophomore Amanda Byrd (Clarkston, MI) chipped in 20 digs and senior middle blocker Radayza Montas (Bronx, NY) collected 9 digs for the Clippers.
For the Cougars, Keesha Francois led the way with 12 kills. Laura Ciesla and Titilola Alao each added 9 kills and Justine Pecora chipped in 8 kills. Ciesla led the defense with a team high 18 digs, while Cory Roesing and Kathleen Estes chipped in 17 digs and 15 digs, respectively.
In the match against the host Devils, Gillespie pounded down 7 kills and had 8 digs. Oberle, Margedant and freshman setter Jaymee Wise (Irvine, CA) all added 3 kills apiece. Wise also dished out 13 assists. Byrd led the defense with 14 digs. For the Devils, Kirsten Lechner contributed 10 kills and 10 digs. Cady Rich added 9 kills and Megan Wolfe finished with 8 kills and 10 digs. Claire Tauschek had a match high 18 digs.
The Clippers dropped their 14th consecutive match and fall to 2-19 on the season.
Concordia will jump back into East Coast Conference action on Tuesday, October 21 as they travel to Flushing, NY to take on the Knights of Queens College. First serve is set for 7:00 PM.
