Concordia Sweeps Pair of Matches

New Haven, CT - The Concordia College volleyball team ran their winning streak to four straight matches with a 3-0 sweep of American International College and a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the host Southern CT State University Owls yesterday in New Haven, CT.
The Clippers defeated AIC 30-25, 30-26 and 30-27. Freshman Maddy Lorenz (Spokane, WA) posted a match 12 kills against the Yellow Jackets. Junior outside hitter Shashawna Ball (San Jose, CA) finished with 9 kills on only 22 attempts. Senior setter Shannon Flaherty (Spokane, WA) posted a double-double with 36 assists and a team high 11 digs. For AIC, setter Ozge Ozkan also netted a double-double with 21 assists and 12 digs. Charisse Trotman had a team high 8 kills.
Against the Owls of SCSU, Concordia came back from down two games to none to defeat the Owls in five games. Scores were 19-30, 23-30, 30-20, 30-18, 15-11. Lorenz led the charge with a match high 24 kills and 17 digs. Freshman libero Amanda Byrd (Clarkston, MI) finished with 16 digs for the match. Senior middle blocker Amanda Westfall (Cedar City, UT) and Ball each finished with 9 kills. Westfall also had 13 digs. Senior opposite Tiffany Edwards (Baytown, TX) added 15 kills, 12 digs and 8 assists. For SCSU, Lauren Coombs gathered a team high 14 kills and 13 digs. Marcia Hollingsworth chipped in 9 kills.
With the wins, the Clippers improve to 7-4 overall.
Concordia will open up ECC play on Tuesday, September 18th, as
they host the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport at the
Meyer Athletic Center. First serve is set for 7:00 PM.
