Clippers Pound Cougars 3-0
Bronxville, NY - Senior Tiffany Edwards (Baytown, TX) tallied a match high 14 kills to lead the Clippers past the visiting Cougars of Caldwell College 3-0 last night at the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, NY. Edwards also finished with 7 digs and 3 service aces. Freshman Maddy Lorenz (Spokane, WA) finished with a double-double, pounding down 11 kills and getting 10 digs. Senior setter Shannon Flaherty (Spokane, WA) also notched a double-double, getting 38 assists and 10 digs.
The Clippers took control in game 1, jumping out to a 10-2 lead early on with tough serving. Both teams would exchange points back and forth. With Concordia up 18-14, Lorenz reeled off 5 straight points from the service line to put the game out of reach. Concordia took game 1 30-16.
In game 2, the Clippers continued the tough serving, braking open a close 18-17 score with freshman libero Amanda Byrd (Clarkston, MI) scoring 8 straight points to give Concordia a 26-17 lead. The Clippers finished off the Cougars in game 2 by a 30-22 score.
In game 3, junior Shashawna Ball (San Jose, CA) put down 5 of her 10 kills to help break open another close game. Concordia took game 3 and the match 30-23.
With the victory, Concordia improves their overall record to 5-4. Caldwell College falls to 0-6 on the season.
Concordia will be back in action on Saturday, September 15th, as
the Clippers travel to New Haven, CT for two matches. The Clippers
will square-off against the Yellow Jackets of American
International College at 2:00 PM and will face the host team, the
Southern CT State University Owls at 4:00 PM.
