Clippers Kick-Off Season in Virginia Tournament

Fairfax, VA - The Concordia College volleyball team kicked off the 2007 season in the Welcome Back Tournament at Paul VI High School in Fairfax, VA. On Friday, Concordia fell to the Lees McRae College Bobcats 3-0. The Clippers concluded play on Saturday by falling to the Braves of UNC-Pembroke 3-0 and East Stroudsburg University Warriors 3-2. Senior opposite Tiffany Edwards (Baytown, TX) and freshman outside hitter Maddy Lorenz (Spokane, WA) led the Clipper attack with 27 and 34 kills, respectively. Against East Stroudsburg University, Lorenz posted a match high 19 kills, to go along with 20 digs and a solo block. Senior setter Shannon Flaherty (Spokane, WA) finished with double-digit assists and digs in two of the 3 matches, including a 45 assist/20 dig performance against the Warriors. Freshman libero Amanda Byrd (Clarkston, MI) led the defense with 22 digs against East Stroudsburg.
Edwards and Lorenz were both named to the All-Tournament Team from a vote by the four head coaches.
The Clippers will resume play on Saturday, September 1, as they travel to Lowell, MA for a tri-match. Concordia will play the Post University Eagles at 1:00 PM and will follow up facing the River Hawks of U MAss-Lowell at 3:00 PM.
