Clippers Fall to New Haven 3-0

Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College women's volleyball team was defeated by the Chargers of the University of New Haven 3-0 last night at the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, NY. Game scores were 19-30, 21-30 and 13-30.

Concordia was led by senior Tiffany Edwards (Baytown, TX) and freshman Maddy Lorenz (Spokane, WA), who each hammered down 7 kills. Outside hitter Shashawna Ball (San Jose, CA) and setter Shannon Flaherty (Spokane, WA) each had 3 kills. Flaherty also collected 18 assists and 5 digs.

For the Chargers, Anicia Wood and Charisse Cotton each had a match high 13 kills. Rhe-Ann Niles had 10 kills and 3 solo blocks. Yael Rosner had 38 assists and Brittani Cotton led the defense with a match high 9 digs.

The Chargers outhit the Clippers .468 to -.075. It was only the second time this season that the Clippers attacked for a negative percentage. The .468 by the Chargers was the highest hitting percentage by a Clipper opponent this season. The Chargers also outblocked the Clippers 14 to 3.

With the loss and the Queens victory over Molloy College, the Clippers are officially eliminated from the 2007 conference playoffs, as their record drops to 12-13 overall and 2-7 in the East Coast Conference. New Haven improves to 20-5 overall and 6-2 in the East Coast Conference.

Concordia will close out the 2007 season on Thursday, November 1st, as they host the Owl of Southern CT State University. The Clippers will honor the four seniors, Cindy Eckard, Amanda Westfall, Tiffany Edwards and Shannon Flaherty, before the game begins at 7:00 PM.
