Edwards Hammers 18 Kills as Clippers Down Flyers 3-1
Behind the hitting of opposite Tiffany Edwards (Baytown, TX), the Concordia College volleyball team defeated the visiting Flyers of Mercy College 3-1 last night at the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, NY. The 18 kills by Edwards is a season high. Edwards also picked up 7 assists, 3 service aces and 6 digs. Junior outside hitter Cindy Eckard (Woodstock, VA) also put forth a solid match, registering 14 kills, 10 digs and 3 service aces. Fellow outside hitter Lohea Merola (Kailua-Kona, HI) chipped in 10 kills and 5 digs for Concordia. Freshman setter Kristina Bennett (Simi Valley, CA) set the Clipper attack with 39 assists and added 7 digs.
For Mercy College, Mariola St. Fleur had 18 kilss and Diana Bruzzone and Michelle Adams added 17 kills and 16 kills, respectively. Melissa Baccari dished out 57 assists for the Flyers.
The win improves the Clippers record to 8-15 overall and 1-7 in the East Coast Conference. Mercy College falls to 3-17 overall and 0-8 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers will return to the Meyer Athletic center on
Thursday, October 26, as they host the Lions of Molloy College. The
winner of this match-up will qualify for the 8th and
final playoff spot in next weeks East Coast Conference Volleyball
Tournament. The match will begin at 7:00 PM.
