Clippers Split a Pair of Matches Over the Weekend
Junior opposite Tiffany Edwards (Baytown, TX) and freshman setter Kristina Bennett (Simi Valley, CA) both contributed double-doubles, as Concordia defeated the University of Sciences in Philadelphia 3-0 and fell to Philadelphia University 3-0 yesterday in Philadelphia, PA. In the 30-20, 30-25, 33-31 victory over USP, Edwards smashed 10 kills and ended with 10 assists, 5 service aces and 3 assists. Bennett finished the game with 36 assists, 10 digs, 5 kills and 2 service aces. Junior outside hitter Cindy Eckard (Woodstock, VA) led the Clipper attack with 14 kills and a team high 15 digs. Junior libero Amanda Westfall (Cedar City, UT) also chipped in 15 digs.
For USP, Megan Wolfe and Michelle Hogga each had 8 kills and Olja Marjanovic chipped in 7 kills. Claire Tauschek paced the defense with a match high 24 digs and Raeann Petrucelli added 14 digs.
In the 14-30, 24-30, 22-30 loss to the host Rams, Edwards finished with a team high in kills (10) and digs (12) for the Clippers. Eckard added 8 kills and 9 digs for the match. Bennett set the offense with 23 assists, also adding 10 digs and 5 kills. Westfall chipped in 9 digs.
Philadelphia University was led by Emily Krauss, who hit home 9 kills and 12 digs. Molly Malone added 8 kills and 3 solo blocks. Cassandra Peck registered 11 digs for the Rams.
The Clippers conclude the 2006 regular season with an overall
record of 10-16, 2-7 in the East Coast Conference. The Clippers
will next travel to Oakdale, NY on Wednesday, November
1st, as they face the Golden Lions of Dowling College in
the Quarter-Finals of the East Coast Conference Women's Volleyball
Championships. The action gets underway at 7:00 PM.
