BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Concordia Clippers women's tennis team hosted Goldey-Beacom College on Sunday in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) regular season finale at the Meyers Tennis Center. Concordia was edged, 5-4, as the Lightning captured the CACC Regular Season Championship.
In doubles action, the No. 1 duo of junior Kristel Kalm (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Siri Victorsson (Stockholm, Sweden) began with an 8-2 victory over Lotte Lesscher y Post and Catarina Zheng. Goldey-Beacom captured the other two doubles matches as the No. 2 duo of freshman Josefina Torres Martin (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Angelica Karlsson Hantzis (Fuengirola, Malaga, Spain) fell to Fredrika Regner and Anna Hortelano Pey 8-5 and the No. 3 duo of junior Tadi Mrewa (East London, South Africa) and freshman Franziska Putschbach (Moenchweiler, Germany) would also be upended 8-5 in their match against Manuela Cornejo and Alma Garcia Valle.
Singles play began with Victorsson earning a 6-1, 6-0 win in her No. 1 match against Post to knot the match at 2-2. The Lightning would take the No. 2 and No. 3 matches as Kalm fell 6-2, 6-1 against Zheng in the No. 2 match and Torres Martin was defeated by Pey 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 3 match. Goldey-Beacom clinched the match victory in the No. 5 match as Mrewa dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Valle. The Clippers continued to finish out the two remaining matches and ended with wins in both the No. 4 and No. 6 matches as Karlsson Hantzis defeated Regner 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 4 match and Putschbach was victorious in her No. 6 match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Pey.
Concordia (10-1, 7-1 CACC) enters the CACC Championship Tournament as the No. 2 seed and will earn a First Round bye. The Clippers will take on the winner of the Wilmington (Del.) and Post match on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. in Middlebury, Conn. in the CACC Semi-Finals.
