Clippers Women’s Tennis Tops Wilmington (Del.) in CACC Action, 6-3

WILMINGTON, Del. - The Concordia Clippers women's tennis team returned to their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Sunday afternoon as Concordia visited Wilmington University. The Clippers would continue their undefeated record in conference play after topping the Wildcats, 6-3, at the Delcastle Tennis Center.

Doubles action began with with No. 2 duo of freshman Josefina Torres Martin (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Angelica Karlsson Hantzis (Fuengirola, Malaga, Spain) claiming an 8-5 victory over Jane Malygina and Anushka Sathe. The No. 1 duo of junior Kristel Kalm (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Siri Victorsson (Stockholm, Sweden) also earned a win in their match as the duo was victorious over Laura Gil and Andrea Ribalta, 8-5. Wilmington managed to take the No. 3 match as junior Tadi Mrewa (East London, South Africa) and freshman Franziska Putschbach (Moenchweiler, Germany) battled down to the wire in their 9-8 (2) defeat against Tess Paya and Begona Gomar as Concordia led 2-1 going into singles play.

Victorsson got things started with a 6-4, 6-1 win in her No. 1 match against Gomar while the Wildcats bounced back with a 6-2, 7-6 (3) victory in the No. 3 match to keep pace with the Clippers as Kalm would fall to Malygina. Karlsson captured Concordia's fourth win after her 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 match against Gil, but Wilmington earned their third win shortly thereafter in the No. 5 match as Mrewa dropped a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 decision to Ribalta. The match-clinching victory came in the No. 4 match as Torres Martin earned a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 come-from-behind win over Sathe. Putschbach added the final victory for the Clippers as she was victorious against Paya 7-6 (6), 4-6, 3-0 (Retired) in the No. 6 match.

Concordia (5-0, 5-0 CACC) will next host Molloy College on Wednesday afternoon at the Meyer Athletic Center for a non-conference match.
