Concordia Women’s Tennis Earns a 6-3 Win in CACC Action at USciences

PHILADELPHIA - The Concordia Clippers women's tennis team earned a 6-3 win in their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match at the University of the Sciences on Sunday.

The No. 3 duo of junior Tadi Mrewa (East London, South Africa) and freshman Franziska Putschbach (Moenchweiler, Germany) secured Concordia's only doubles victory as they would defeat Julia James and Jillyan Serrano, 8-1. Junior Kristel Kalm (Stockholm, Sweden) and sophomore Siri Victorsson (Stockholm, Sweden) would fall in their No. 1 match, 8-5, to Karla Miletic and Abbygail Gamarnik as did the No. 2 duo of freshman Josefina Torres Martin (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Angelica Karlsson Hantzis (Fuengirola, Malaga, Spain) against Elkanah Linder and Danielle Paran.

In singles play Putschbach earned a 6-1, 6-0 win against Serrano in the No. 6 match while Mrewa came away with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 5 match against James. Karlsson Hantzis added another win for the Clippers in her No. 2 match as she captured a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Linder while Kalm battled her way to a 7-6, 6-3 win over Gamarnik in the No. 3 match.

Torres Martin began her No. 4 match against Paran with a 6-4 victory as Paran came back with a 6-1 win to send the match into a decisive third set. Torres Martin would finish strong as she earned a 6-3 win in the third set to take the match. The only singles defeat would come in the No. 1 match as Victorsson was unable to earn a comeback victory against Miletic in the 0-6, 6-4, 1-6 loss.

Concordia (3-0, 3-0 CACC) will return home on Wednesday to host Caldwell University for a 3 p.m. CACC match at the Meyers Tennis Center.
