Pensacola, Fla. – The thirty-ninth ranked Concordia College women's tennis team began the first of three straight matches in the Sunshine State on Thursday afternoon with a matchup against the ninth-ranked West Florida Argos. The Clippers were unable to upset their opponent as West Florida secured an 8-1 victory at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
The match began with the Argos taking all three doubles matches as Concordia would fall behind 3-0. In singles action junior Romana Tabak (Bratislava, Slovakia) would battle hard with the sixth-ranked singles player, Laure-Eline Faure, but in the end Faure would come away with a close 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 win for West Florida. The Clippers' lone victory came in the No. 2 singles match as freshman Costanza Mecchi (Rome, Italy) took a 7-6, 6-1 win against Nina Bubelova.
Junior Alla Kravchuk (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) would drop a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Kat Dikosavljevic in the No. 3 match while freshman Valeriia Cheban (Odessa, Ukraine) fell to Fernanda Amaral in the No. 4 match 6-0, 6-0. Junior Linda Eliasson (Gothenburg, Sweden) was defeated in her No. 5 match 6-4, 6-1 to Sarai Flores while freshman Stefanie Canals-Baker (Pollensa, Islas Baleares, Spain) would also fall in her match 7-5, 7-6 in the No. 6 match to Francesca Fanchin.
The Clippers (11-3, 7-1 CACC) will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as Concorida will take on William Carey back at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
