Women's Tennis Falls to Barry in Quarterfinals

The Clippers faced off against Barry University in the NCAA Quarterfinals (Elite Eight) today. 

Maria Ortiz and Juliana Frey were the first off the court in doubles as they fell in the second doubles flight.  Ortiz and Frey were on serve to start the match at 1-2 but were then broken twice as they fell behind 1-5.  The Clipper pair were unable to recover from the break and fell 1-8.

Ola Roberts and Yuliya Plevako, at the number one doubles flight, was broken early in the set as they fell behind 0-3.  The Clipper pair gained a game in the next couple that were played but still were trialing, this time with a score of 1-5.  Roberts and Plevako were able to pick up another game but it was a little late as they fell 2-8.

Adeline Brennan and Ana S.O. Mendes hit at the third doubles flight.  The Clippers pair was broken several times early in the match to fall behind 0-5 before being able to grab their only game of the match.  Brennan and Mendes fell 1-8.

After the doubles matches the Clippers trailed 0-3 to Barry as they prepared for singles.

Clara Catanzano, at the number four singles position, worked hard on court to grab a win but was broken six times in the match to fall 0-6; 0-6. 

Maria Ortiz, at the fifth singles flight, also was swept 0-6; 0-6 despite her efforts to collect a win.

Adeline Brennan, Juliana Frey and Ola Roberts all were down a set and into the second set while Yuliya Plevako was up in the first set 5-4 when play was called as Barry collected their fifth team point to win.

The Clippers fell 0-5 to Barry and finish with an 18-3 overall record.
