Clippers take first place all to themselves as they defeat the Lightning
The Clippers traveled down to Delaware to face off againt the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning. The Clippers looked to take the match and halt the Lightning's regular season win streak and take first place all to themselves as they are tied with the Lightning before the match.
Doubles were up first and the number one pair of Yuliya Plevako and Ola Roberts stayed on serve for the first six games. With grabbing a break on the Lightning's fourth service game the Clipper pair surged ahead. A few games later Plevako and Roberts completed their doubles match grabbing an 8-3 win.
Number two doubles pair of Juliana Frey and Maria Ortiz fought hard on the court. With the match tied at 4-4 the Clipper pair grabbed their next service game and then broke the Lightning to go up the break. Frey and Ortiz went ahead 7-4 after their sixth service game then finished their Lightning opponents down grabbing the next game to take the match 8-4.
Ana S.O Mendes and Adeline Brennan, at the number three doubles position, went to work straight away. With the games tied up after eight played the Clipper pair stepped up their game and took the next four games. Mendes and Brennan took the match 8-4 to put the Clippers up in the team match 3-0.
Ola Roberts had a little trouble at the number one singles spot. With a late break in set one, Roberts took the set 6-3. Roberts then charged ahead in set two after being on sereve through 2-2 in the set taking two games from her opponent. With the two games stolen, Roberts took the match with a second set score of 6-2.
Yuliya Plevako showed her style once again on court at the number two singles position. Plevako held court through both her sets. With six straight breaks of the Lightning serve, Plevako won in decisive fashion 6-0;6-0.
Juliana Frey, at number three singles, got a break half way through the first set before taking it 6-3. Frey's second set found her on serve through 4-4. With a late set break Frey took the second set and the match with a 6-4 score.
Adeline Brennan went back to back with her scores in the number four singles spot. Brennan grabbed the first set, while grabbing a break, 6-3. Brennan then followed her first set up with repeating it for the second set as she collected a 6-3 set win.
Maria Ortiz had very little trouble at the number five singles slot for the Clippers. Ortiz only gave up two game total through her two sets nabbing a 6-1; 6-1 dominating victory.
Ana S.O Mendes, finishing off the Clippers line-up at the number six singles position, stayed on serve through 3-3 in the first set. Mendes then finished off her opponent in the set to collect a 6-3 score. Mendes' second set saw two breaks of her opponent's serve before finishing out the match with a 6-2 second set score.
With the sweep from the Clippers over the Lightning, the Clippers have taken first place in the CACC all to themselves.
The Clippers will next head to Philadelphia on Friday, October 8th to face off at Holy Family University.
