Clippers open up season with win over Post University
The Clippers Women's Tennis season opened up their dual match season as they hosted the Post University Eagles. With the customary doubles matches up first, the Clippers immediately showed why they are the defending CACC Champions.
Maria Ortiz and newcomer Juliana Frey, positioned at the number one double spot, were in control of the match from the first serve. The pair broke their opponents serve four times and were able to hold onto their own as well for the 8-0 score.
Adeline Brennan and Ana S.O Mendes, sitting at the number two doubles position, also were unstoppable as they repeated Ortiz and Frey's efforts. With the 8-0 from Brennan and Mendes the Clippers notched their second point.
Isobelle Culaba and Camilla Xavier, playing at the number three spot, held court as well as they went 8-0 and the Clippers were two away from the match.
After a short break the singles were up next and first off the court was Maria Ortiz as she dominated her opponent in both sets with a 6-0; 6-0 victory in the number five singles.
Ana S.O Mendes was off next shortly after Ortiz following her score with a repeat. The 6-0; 6-0 victory from Mendes notched the fifth point for the Clippers giving them the match over the Eagles.
Juliana Frey, at the number three singles position, continued the
trend of holding court. With six straight holds of serve,
Frey also broke her opponent six straight times giving her the
6-0;6-0.
Adeline Brennan, serving at the number four singles, also was a force on the court collecting herself a perfect 6-0;6-0 score.
Ola Roberts, playing hard in the number one spot, let just one game go by her in the first set. With a perfect second set from Roberts the Clippers were just one away from the sweep.
Finishing last but certainly not least was Yuliya Plevako at the number two singles position. Plevako was her usual self, dominating on serve and on serve-receive as she defeated her opponent 6-0;6-0 for the Clippers clean sweep of the Eagles.
The Clippers will return to the courts again this Saturday, September 25th as they head to Philadelphia to take on the Chestnut Hill College Griffins.
