Lady Clippers start spring season with a win over ASA
The Clippers women's tennis team started up their spring season as they hosted ASA. The singles went first for a change of pace for the Clippers. Cristina Oliveira and Yuliya Plevako were dominate as they each were perfect in their first set. Both in thei second set contiuned to be dominate as they only gave up one game each and defeated their opponets 6-0; 6-1.
Ola Roberts, at the number one spot, went up a break in the first set. With holding stong Ola took the first set 6-3. The second set would be a flip for Roberts as she went down a break. Trying to break her opponent back Roberts missed and the match went to a third set. Roberts and her opponent stayed on serve through four all. Roberts lost another unfortunate break and lost her match 6-3; 3-6; 4-6.
Adeline Brennan, at the number four spot, was broken early in her first set and could not recover. Brennan then pushed the second set into a tie breaker and just missed to push the match to three as she fell to her ASA opponent 3-6; 6-7.
Maria Ortiz went to three sets as she earned two breaks in her
first set. After a change of events in the second set as she
herself was broken several times the match would be decided in the
third. Maria picked up her game and repeated her first set
performance to take the match with a 6-2; 1-6; 6-2 win.
Isobel Cullaba stepped in at the number six spot for the match. Dominating through both sets Cullaba only gave up one game as she cruised to victory with a 6-1; 6-0 score.
With the Clippers up 4-2 after the singles, doubles would finish the day.
Adeline Brennan and Isobel Cullaba sealed the Clippers win with a perfect run at number three doubles as they were perfect with an 8-0 score.
Yuliya Plevako and Maria Ortiz worked hard as their opponents stayed one game behind them through 5-4. With some angled shots, Plevako and Ortiz took the last three games to earn an 8-4 win.
Ola Roberts and Cristina Oliveira stayed on serve also through 5-4 in their match. With a break point Roberts and Oliveira capitalized and moved ahead of their opponents. Roberts and Oliveira finished out the match as they broke their opponents serve one more time won 8-4 to give the Clippers the 7-2 win.
