Flourtown, PA - Clipper claim CACC Championship

The Concordia College Clippers headed down to Pennsylvania today to face off in their first CACC Championship match.  The Clippers, seeded #1, were to face off against the #2 seeded Goldey-Beacom College Lightning.

The doubles matches were the first to kick off the championship.  The Clippers, sporting a new line-up for the Championship, would head out with Yuliya Plevako and Maria Ortiz at the #1 doubles spot and Adeline Brennan and Camilla Xavier at the #2 doubles spot.  Isobel Culaba and Jen Secular were in at the #3 doubles spot for the Clippers.  Plevako and Ortiz worked hard at the new position and were victorious with an 8-4 win.  Brennan and Xavier followed their lead and defeated their Lightning opponents 8-2.  The Lightning did nab the #3 doubles win to make the Clippers match lead 2-1.

With the change in the doubles line-up the singles would shift as well.  Yuliya Plevako took care at her new position of #1 singles with a dominating win of 6-0; 6-0.  Maria Ortiz was also victorious, this time at #3 singles, nabbing a late in the set break for the first set victory 7-5 and then having little trouble after that in her second set win of 6-1 giving the Clippers the 4 to 1 lead in the match.  Adeline Brennan, at #2 singles, was broken late in the first set of her match but pushed back in the second set to force a third set.  Unfortunately Brennan's Lightning opponent broke first and gave the Lightning another point toward the match.  Maria Culaba unfortunately struggled against her Lightning opponent at #5 singles and the Lightning gained their third point toward the match.

With the score 4-3 in favor of the Clippers and two matches on the courts it would be a close all.  Camilla Xavier, at #4 singles took the first set 6-3 with the early break.  Xavier's opponent strike back and took the second set forcing the match into a third a deciding set.  With just one break of serve needed the match could be the Clippers or give the Lightning the shot to tie it up.  Xavier was the first to break and defeated her opponent in three sets, 6-3; 3-6; 6-4.  With Xavier's win, the Clippers claimed their first CACC Championship.
