Philadelphia, PA - Clippers Women's Tennis takes doubles title at ITA Regional Tournament
Five members of the Concordia College Clipper women's tennis team participated in the singles tournament at the ITA Regionals in Philadelphia. Ola Roberts, seeded second Yuli Plevako, seeded third, and Christina Oliveira, seeded fourth were among the those heading for the title. Maria Ortiz and Adeline Brennan rounded out the Clipper roster.
Brennan and Ortiz played well in their first round matches with
straight set victories as Roberts, Plevako and Oliveira received
byes.
The second round would see the Clippers first loss as Adeline
Brennan was defeated 6-0; 6-1. Oliveria destroyed her second
round opponent only dropping one game through the match.
Plevako and Roberts followed with straight set easy victories for
their move into the third round. Ortiz pushed her first set
of the round into a tie break and came out a straight set winner as
well.
Ola Roberts continued her hot streak with an easy 6-1; 6-0 win over her third round opponent. Plevako almost dropped her second set in her match but pulled it through to move on to the quarters. Oliveira added another straight set win to resume with a 6-3; 6-0 win.
The quarterfinals would see just two advance with Roberts
winning 6-2; 7-5 to put her safely 
into the semifinals and Oliveira cruising on through with a 6-3;
6-1 victory. Plevako unfortunately was defeated in three sets
after coming back into the match.
Ola Roberts was the only one to come out of the semifinal round with a decisive 6-1; 6-3 victory. Christina Oliveira fell in straight sets after pushing the first set into a tie break.
The finals was the toughest match for Roberts as both sets were pushed deep into the match. Roberts was unfortunately broken in both sets and fell 7-5; 7-5.
The women's team also competed in the doubles tournament at the ITA Regional.
The Clippers women's tennis team traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the ITA Regional Tournament. With returner Christina Oliveira partnered with newcomer Ola Roberts seeded second the team looked to go straight to the finals. Yuli Plevako and Maria Ortiz paired up as well as Adeline Brennan and Camilla Xavier to finish out the Clipper trio of doubles.
Plevako and Ortiz moved right along with an 8-0 victory over their opponents as the team of Oliveira and Roberts had a bye. Unfortunately the road ended early for Brennan and Xavier as they were defeated 8-1.
Round two came and went quickly with an 8-0 victory for Oliveira and Roberts. Plevako and Ortiz got a break and moved on as well with an 8-6 win.
Christina Oliveira and Ola Roberts continued to move from opponent to opponent with ease as they moved into the semifinals with an 8-2 decisive win. Plevako and Ortiz's road came to an end with an 8-3 defeat.
The semifinals also saw a quick win for Oliveira and Roberts as they walked into the finals with an 8-1 win over their opponents.
The finals would be Oliveira and Roberts' test of the tournament.
The team dropped the first set 6-2 but turned the match around and
forced it to a third set with a second set victory of 6-1.
With the match at one all Oliveira and Roberts kept their momentum
and took the third set and the ITA Regional Doubles title.
Christina Oliveira and Ola Roberts will travel to Alabama for the ITA National Tournament at the end of October.
