Clippers defeat Tigers in Day one of East Regional Tournament
The Clippers headed to Stonehill College in Massachusetts to face off against the Holy Family University Tigers in the their first round match in the NCAA East Regional Tournament. As the #1 seed in the East the Clippers headed into the tournamnent with a 15-1 record.
The Clippers started with doubles as usual. Number two
doubles pair of Yuliya Plevako and
Maria Ortiz were off the court first in the match as they
surrendered just one game through out the eight game pro-set
match. With four breaks of serve the Clipper pair defeated
their Tiger opponents 8-1.
Adeline Brennan and Camilla Xavier were next off the court at the number three doubles position. Mirroring their teammates scores the pair let up just one game on their quest. With a 8-1 score the Clippers went up 2-0.
Cristina Oliveira and Ola Roberts finished out the doubles matches at the number one spot where they broke their opponents three times on their way to victory. With just two games surrendered the pair put the team to 3-0 with a 8-2 win.
Singles were up first and Yuliya Plevako, #3
singles, continued to show her strength as she was again
dominate on the court. With one game to her opponents name
Plevako stepped up and defeated her opponent 6-1 in the first
set. With her game on cruise control, Plevako held court on
her way to a 6-0 second set to put the Clippers one point away from
advancing.
Ola Roberts, at the #2 singles position, came out strong as she surrendered one game to her opponent in the first set. With three breaks of serve in the first set and another three in the second set Roberts defeated her Tiger opponent 6-1; 6-1 and the Clippers claimed a 5-0 victory to move to tomorrow's match.
The Clippers will face the winner of the Stonehill/Goldey-Beacom match to move on to the National tournament.
