Druker and Sesanker Claim ITA Doubles Championship
Philadelphia, PA - Seniors Somadi Druker (Capetown, South Africa) and Celise Sesanker (Scarborough, Trinidad & Tobago) captured the doubles championship at the 2008 Wilson/ITA Regional Championships, hosted by Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA.
Druker and Sesanker defeated the duo of Adriana Rodriguez and Daniela Rodriguez 8-5 in the finals. Druker and Sesanker, who were seeded #1 in the tournament, received a bye in the first round and beat Jessie Franklin and Maria Perevezentseva of Queens College 8-0 in the second round.
In the quarter-final, Druker and Sesanker dominated Kara Murphy and Cheryl Martin 8-0. That win put them into the semi-finals, where they would meet up with another team from ECC for Queens College. Concordia would put away the tandem of Laura Mocodeanu and Kirby Reiss, the #6 seeded team by a score of 8-5.
Junior Cristina Oliveira (Porto Allegre, Brazil) and freshman Maria Ortiz (Bogota, Columbia) reached the semi-finals of the tournament with an 8-4 victory over #2 seed Alyssa Morra and Maria Mendes in the the quarter-finals. Oliveira and Ortiz lost to Rodriguez and Rodriguez 9-7 in the semi-finals.
The Clippers will return to action on Tuesday, September 23rd, as they host the Golden Lions of Dowling College. The match will begin at 3:00 PM.
