Women's Tennis Upended by Falcons 5-4

Results

Waltham, MA - The Concordia College women's tennis team lost a 5-4 match to the Falcons of Bentley University on Tuesday afternoon in Waltham, MA. The Clippers, who came into the match undefeated in dual play and ranked No. 1 in the NCAA East Region, fall to 11-1 on the season. The Falcons are ranked No. 10 in the NCAA East Region and improve to 9-7 overall.

The Clippers opened with seniors Somadi Druker (Capetown, South Africa) and Celise Sesanker (Scarborough, Trinidad & Tobago) taking No. 1 doubles 8-1 over Heather Haggerty and Marcia Gilbride.

Bentley took No. 2 doubles, as Kelly Fleszar and Andrea Hollot defeated junior Cristina Oliveira (Porto Allegre, Brazil) and freshman Maria Ortiz (Bogota, Columbia) 8-4. The Falcons would take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play when sophomore Adeline Brennan (Toms River, NJ) and junior Tita Kiss (Stamford, CT) fell to Kara Murphy and Ellen Mader by a score of 8-6.

Concordia was able to claim the top three singles matches, while Bentley was victorious in No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles. With the score tied at 4-4, the match of the day took place at No. 4 singles. Kiss lost the first set to Hollot 6-4 and bounced back to win the second set 7-5. However, in the third set Hollot pulled out a 7-6 (2) win to give the Falcons the 5-4 win over the Clippers.

Concordia will look to bounce back on Tuesday, April 14th as they travel to Bronx, NY to face the Rams of Division I Fordham University. The action begins at 4:00 PM.
