Clippers Fall to Rams 6-3
Bronxville, NY - After winning 11 straight matches during the fall semester, the Concordia College women's tennis team lost their second straight match of the spring to the Rams of Fordham University by a score of 6-3 yesterday afternoon at the Meyers Tennis Center in Bronxville, NY. The Clippers fall to 11-2 on the year while Fordham improves to 5-9 on the season.
The Clippers dropped two doubles points to begin the match. The duo of junior Cristina Oliveira (Porto Allegre, Brazil) and Maria Ortiz (Bogota, Columbia) were victorious over Sarah Tremaine and Kathryn Silva 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. The No. 1 doubles pair of Somadi Druker (Capetown, South Africa) and Celise Sesanker (Scarborough, Trinidad & Tobago) lost an 8-3 decision to Dominique Ligouri and Martina Featherston and Adeline Brennan (Toms River, NJ) and Tita Kiss (Stamford, CT) fell 8-1 to Bethany Boyle and Elizabeth Stall at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Druker was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Featherston at No. 2 singles. The third Clipper win came at No. 5 singles where Ortiz lost the first set 6-3 to Stall before coming back to win the second set 6-0 and the third set 6-1.
The Clippers will travel to Bloomsburg, PA on Friday and Saturday, April 17-18 to participate in the Bloomsburg University Duals. The Clippers will open with the host Huskies of Bloomsburg University on Friday at 4:30 PM. The following day, Concordia will take on Kutztown University at 10:30 AM and will wrap up play against East Stroudsburg University at 3:30 PM.
