Druker Named Player of the Year as Clippers Claim Three Titles at Flight Tournament

Flushing, NY - Sophomore Somadi Druker (Capetown, South Africa) was named the East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year and won titles at #1 singles and #1 doubles at the ECC Individual Flight Championships this past weekend in Flushing, NY. Druker went undefeated this season, posting a perfect 7-0 ECC record and a 10-0 overall record.

Druker was dominant in the first two rounds of play, winning 6-0, 6-0 in the quarter-finals and 6-2, 6-1 in the semi-finals. In the finals of the #1 singles flight, Druker needed three sets to defeat Alda Ribeiro of Adelphi University 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-2.

 

 

Also claiming a singles title was sophomore Tita Kiss (Stamford, CT), who won at #5 singles. Kiss won her quarter-final match 6-0, 6-0 and won 6-3, 6-0 in the semi-finals. Her finals match pitted her against Jennifer Tripp of Dowling College. Kiss won the first game 6-1 and followed that up with a 6-2 win to claim the title.

In doubles play, Druker teamed with junior Celise Sesanker (Scarborough, Trinidad & Tobago) at #1 doubles for a 8-3 win in the finals over Queens College.
