Clippers Cruise to First Win
Philadelphia, PA - Junior forward Sabrina Imbrogno (Yonkers, NY) netted one of four goals for the Clippers in a 4-2 victory over the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College this past Saturday in Philadelphia, PA.
The Clippers got on the scoreboard first in the 21st minute on a goal by junior Kenisha Masters (Queens, NY). Imbrogno's goal put Concordia ahead 2-0, as the score would stand for the first half of play.
Forward Lauren Riiff scored in the opening minute of the second half for Chestnut Hill on an assist by Tara Morey. Riiff would find the back of the net again in the 59th minute to even the score at 2-2. Forward Julie Treen assisted on the second goal for the Griffins.
Concordia would take control of the game as junior midfielder Rachel Woodland (Woking, England) scored on a header off of a corner kick to give the Clippers a 3-2 lead. Freshman midfielder Alisha Phillips (Surrey, England) was credited the assist on the goal. Concordia would add a late goal in the 75th minute from senior forward Julian Talbert (Brooklyn, NY) to make the final score 4-2.
Junior goalkeeper Aileen Alvear (Woodhaven, NY) played the full 90 minutes for Concordia, allowing 2 goals and coming up with 3 saves. The Clippers out shot Chestnut Hill 24-19 for the game, with Woodland, Phillips and Masters firing off 4 shots apiece.
The Clippers open up the season 1-0 while the Griffins fall to 0-1 to open their campaign.
Concordia will be back in action on Saturday, September 6th, as they travel to Bloomfield, NJ to take on the Deacons of Bloomfield College. The game will begin at 12:00 PM.
