Dowling Tops Clippers 5-0
Brookhaven, NY - The Concordia College women's soccer team was defeated by the Dowling College Golden Lions 5-0 yesterday in an East Coast Conference game in Brookhaven, NY. The Clippers fall to 4-10-1 overall with the loss and 0-6-1 in the East Coast Conference. The Golden Lions improve to 9-4-3 on the season and 6-1-1 in conference action.
Dowling opened the scoring in the 4th minute on a goal by Vanessa Moreira, as she lobbed a shot over Clipper goalkeeper Aileen Alvear (Woodhaven, NY) to put the Golden Lions up 1-0. Moreira would add two more goals for Dowling. Lauren Carbonaro and Christi Intartaglia also found the back of the goal for the Golden Lions, as Dowling scored all five goals in the first half.
Dowling out shot Concordia 17-3 in the first half and 21-5 for the game. The Golden Lions also took 10 more corner kicks than the Clippers. Alvear finished the game with 7 saves, which is the most saves since she recorded 8 saves against Adelphi University back on October 8th.
The Clippers will return to Holtdorf Soccer Field on Saturday, October 25th to take on the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College in an East Coast Conference game. The action begins at 12:00 PM.
