Clippers and Mavericks End in 2-2 Draw

Dobbs Ferry, NY - The Concordia College women's soccer team played even with the Mavericks of Mercy College and finished in a 2-2 tie yesterday afternoon in Dobbs Ferry, NY. The Clippers move to 4-8-1 overall on the season and 0-5-1 in the East Coast Conference. Mercy goes to 1-4-2 overall and 0-3-2 in conference action.

The Mavericks struck first with a goal in the 7th minute, when Delmara Reece stole the ball and blasted a shot from 20 yards out.

 

 

The Clippers would answer in the 11th minute, as junior Kenisha Masters (Queens, NY) found the net in a scramble off of a corner kick to tie the game at 1-1. It was the team leading 4th goal of the season for Masters. Mercy finished the first half with a slight 9-7 advantage in shots and the Clippers had 5 corner kicks to the Mavericks 4 corner kicks.

In the second half, Concordia would push ahead 2-1 when junior Rachel Woodland (Woking, England) scored an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute past the outstretched arms of Maverick goalkeeper Jackie Roebuck.

Mercy would tie the game just over a minute later when Damima Bakayoko knocked in a cross from the right side from teammate Arlene Broderick to tie the game at 2-2.

In the first overtime, the Clippers had 2 shots on goal and held Mercy to no shots, as Woodland and senior Julian Talbert (Brooklyn, NY) each fired off a shot.

In the second overtime, both squads were able to take one shot in the 10 minute overtime frame. Talbert finished wit ha season high 6 shots for the Clippers. Concordia ot shot the Mavericks 16-14 for the game and held a 9-8 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Aileen Alvear (Woodhaven, NY) finished with 6 saves for Concordia, while  Roebuck stopped 9 shots for the Mavericks.

The Clippers will return to action on Friday, October 17th, as they travel to Rutherford, NJ to take on the Felician College Golden Falcons in a non-conference game. The game will begin at 7:30 PM.
