Bears Down Clippers 10-1
Bronxville, NY - Led by senior Krista Yulfo's 5 goals, the Bears of NYIT defeated the Clippers 10-1 yesterday in women's soccer action at Holtdorf Soccer Field in Bronxville, NY. Yulfo took 8 shots in the game, finding the net on 5 of them. Junior Diana Cotilletta finished with 2 assists on the afternoon.
The Bears would open the scoring in the 21st minute on a goal by sophomore Meghan Sguigna. NYIT would follow that up with 2 more goals by Yulfo in a 6 minute span to put the Bears up 3-0 in the 29th minute of play. Junior forward Jullian Talbert (Brooklyn, NY) netted her first goal of the season a minute later off of a feed by junior Nathifa Newby (Brooklyn, NY) to cut the Clipper deficit to 3-1. NYIT would answer with 3 more goals, all by Yulfo, to increase the Bears lead to 6-1 at the half.
In the second half, freshman Taylor Jensen scored 2 goals for NYIT and Cathy Gironda and Rebecca Cosentino each chipped in a goal. The Clippers were outshot 24-3 for the game.
Junior Mary Darbee (Patchogue, NY) minded the goal in the first half for Concordia, allowing 6 goals and finishing with 7 saves. Newby took over in the second half, picking up 1 save and allowing 4 goals. Jenna Ament played the entire 90 minutes for NYIT, giving up the 1 Clipper goal and finishing with 1 save.
The loss drops the Clippers record to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the East Coast Conference. YNIT improves to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers will continue ECC play on Saturday, September 29th,
as they travel to Bridgeport, CT to face the Purple Knights of the
University of Bridgeport. The game will begin at 10:00 AM.
