Mavericks Gallop Past Clippers 101-81
Bronxville, NY - Despite shooting a season high 54.2% (32 for 59) from the floor, the Concordia College women's basketball team lost an East Coast Conference battle to the Mavericks of Mercy College 101-81 yesterday afternoon at the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, NY. The 54.2% mark eclipses the previous season high of 41.3% against the same Maverick team back on January 21st in Dobbs Ferry, NY. The Clippers shot 26 for 63 in that contest.
Concordia was led by junior Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY), who posted 20 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 blocks. Rommel, who is one of the most efficient shooter in the ECC, shot 72.7% (8 for 11) from the floor. Freshman Kayla Koch (Kings Park, NY) added 15 points and 3 rebounds and sophomore Amanda Eggink (Red Hook, NY) finished with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. Junior Brittany Binnie (Middletown, NY) chipped in 11 points, 9 assists and 5 rebounds.
For Mercy College, Christina Baxter and Ashley Borofsky pumped in 21 points apiece. Baxter finished with a double-double, as she also had 11 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Delmara Reece also collected a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Simone Williams and Aimee Levine finished with 12 points and 11 points, respectively.
The loss drops the Clippers record to 4-21 overall and 2-14 in the East Coast Conference. The Mavericks improve to 9-16 on the year and 6-10 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers will have their home finale on Wednesday, February 25th, as they take on the Adelphi University Panthers at the Meyer Athletic Center. The Panthers beat the Clippers 89-61 earlier this season in Garden City, NY. Koch led Concordia with 17 points and 9 rebounds in that contest. The game will start at 5:00 PM.
