Pioneers Inside Presence Too Much for Clippers
Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College women's basketball team lost an East Coast Conference match-up to the Pioneers of C.W. Post 79-48 last night at the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, NY. Concordia falls to 3-19 overall and 1-12 in the East Coast Conference. The Pioneers improve to 9-11 on the year and 7-6 in conference play.
The Clippers were led by freshman Kayla Koch (Kings Park, NY) and sophomore Bonnie DeFina (Maspeth, NY), who posted 11 points each. Koch also finished with 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 5 steals. Junior Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY) added 7 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals, all in the second half, while junior Brittany Binnie (Middletown, NY) finished with 7 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Freshman Jessica Zielske (Boca Raton, FL) chipped in 6 points for the Clippers.
C.W. Post featured a balance scoring attack led by Whitney Murrer, who finished with a game high 16 points and 6 rebounds. Felicia Joyner collected 14 points and 4 rebounds, while teammate Jasmine Moore had 11 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Noelle Pawlicki and Chantee Hallett chipped in 10 points and 9 points, respectively.
The Pioneers dominated down low during the game, out rebounding the Clippers 49-31. C.W. Post collected 17 offensive rebounds during the game and out scored the Clippers 32-4 inside the paint. The Clippers shot 13 for 48 (27.1%) for the game, compared to 29 for 64 (45.3%) for the Pioneers.
Concordia remains two games out of the 8th and final playoff spot with 5 games remaining on the season. The Clippers will travel to Flushing, NY on Saturday, February 14th to take on the Knights of Queens College in a conference battle. Queens defeated Concordia 87-67 at the Meyer Athletic Center on January 14th. The game will begin at 5:00 PM.
