Concordia Tops Felician 75-71

Rutherford, NJ - Sophomore Bonnie DeFina (Maspeth, NY) scored a game high 21 points to lead the Clippers to a 75-71 victory over the Golden Falcons of Felician College last night at Job Gymnasium in Rutherford, NJ. The Clippers pick up their first win of the season to improve to 1-2. The Golden Falcons fall to 0-3 overall.

Junior Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY) turned in a solid all-around performance with 19 points, 3 rebounds, 6 steals and 2 assists. Junior Brittany Binnie (Middletown, NY) finished with 11 points and 5 assists. Sophomore Kasey Grisanti (Bronx, NY) led the Clippers in rebounds (10) and assists (6).

 

 

For Felician, Janelle Biamonte finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Amanda Bartee added 14 points and 7 rebounds while Shannon Gilmartin chipped in 10 points. Jessica Ford led all players with 20 rebounds

The contest was tightly contested as neither team would lead by more than 7 points throughout the course of the game. There were 8 ties and 9 lead changes during the 40 minute span.

With the Golden Falcons ahead 64-60, DeFina nailed a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to one point with 2:05 remaining. After both teams traded baskets, DeFina hit another 3-pointer to give Concordia a 68-66 lead with just over a minute remaining. DeFina finished 2-5 from 3-point range for the game.

Bartee would tie the game at 68-68 on a lay-up with :42 seconds left. Binnie would then go coast-to-coast and score on a basket to put the Clippers ahead for good. Sophomore Amanda Eggink (Red Hook, NY) connected on two free throws and Binnie made 1 out of 2 free throws to give Concordia a 73-68 cushion with :15 seconds left. Breanne DeFalco made things interesting by making a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left, however, a Felician foul put DeFina on the free throw line as she made the final two points of the game.

Concordia will return to action on Saturday, November 22nd, as the host the Warriors of East Stroudsburg University in a non-conference game. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM.
