Clippers Fall to CACC Foes

Wilmington, DE - The Concordia College women's basketball team lost a pair of games in Delaware this past weekend to CACC opponents Wilmington University and Goldey-Beacom College.
The Clippers opened up with an 83-55 loss to the Wildcats of Wilmington University on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Bonnie DeFina (Maspeth, NY) led the Clippers with 11 points. Sophomore Kasey Grisanti (Bronx, NY) finished with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Grisanti also added 3 steals and 2 assists. Junior Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY) and freshman Jessica Zielske (Boca Raton, FL) each added 7 points. Rommel and sophomore Amanda Eggink (Red Hook, NY) each finished with 7 rebounds for the Clippers.
For Wilmington, Amelia Simmons led all scorers and rebounders with 37 points and 16 rebounds. Jamie Gallagher added 15 points and a game high 7 assists, while Jillian Bennett chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds. Gallagher and Bennett finished with 3 steals each for the Wildcats.
In Sunday's game against the Goldey-Beacom, the Lightning used a 25-10 second half run to take control and defeat the Clippers 88-54. The Lightning led 36-32 at the break, but scored the first 8 points of the second half to go ahead 44-32. A lay-up by Rommel stopped the Lightning run and another lay-up by freshman Kayla Koch (Kings Park, NY) cut the deficit to 8 points with 15:17 remaining. That would be the closest the Clippers would get, as the Lightning scored 17 of the next 23 points of the game to lead 61-42 halfway through the second half. Rommel scored a game high 28 points and had 5 rebounds. Rommel shot 10 for 17 (59%) from the floor for the game. DeFina and Zielske added 7 points and 6 points, respectively. Eggink finished with 5 points and a team high 9 rebounds.
For the Lightning, Kellyn Nolan scored 27 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and added 4 assists and 4 blocks. Janae Weldon turned in a solid performance with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals. Amber Gullickson chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds and Arielle Alford finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists Goldey-Beacom.
The Clippers fall to 0-2 on the young season and will travel to Rutherford, NJ on Wednesday, November 19th to face the Golden Falcons of Felician College in a non-conference match-up. The game begins at 7:00 PM.
