Women's Basketball Season Preview
Bronxville, NY - The Concordia College women's basketball team will be looking to make waves during the 2008-2009 season. The Clippers return all 5 starters and 9 letter winners from last season's squad that finished 2-25 overall and 1-19 in the East Coast Conference.
Concordia will be led by junior Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY), who was the team's leading scorer last season. Rommel played in all 27 games and averaged 11 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game. Junior Brittany Binnie (Middletown, NY) will be back at the guard position and will look to increase her totals of 8.7 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game and 3.9 assist per game from last year.
Last year's freshmen played significant minutes for the Clippers. Center Amanda Eggink (Red Hook, NY) played almost 29 minutes per game and finished with 7.7 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game, while guard Bonnie DeFina (Maspeth, NY) added 6.1 points per game. Forward Kasey Grisanti (Bronx, NY) chipped in 2.4 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.
Concordia will look to junior Shari Cordero (Bronx, NY) for help on the boards. Cordero pulled down 5.3 rebounds per game last season and had 6.7 points per game. Also on the front line for the Clippers will be juniors Gianna Zonghetti (Garrison, NY), Jocelyn Martin (Nesconset, NY) and Gina Amato (West Haven, CT), who averaged 15.1 minutes, 8.5 minutes and 6.7 minutes per game, respectively.
The Clippers will be joined this season by junior Cherise Moreland (Laurelton, NY) and freshmen Kayla Koch (Kings Park, NY) and Jessica Zeilske (Boca Raton, FL), all of whom will give depth at the guard position.
Concordia will play a competitive non-conference schedule, beginning with a pair of games against CACC schools. The Clippers open the season at Wilmington University on Saturday, November 15th and will play Goldey-Beacom College the following day. The Clippers will also travel to Felician College, Nyack College and Post University this season. Concordia will host three non-conference games at the Meyer Athletic Center before opening ECC play against NYIT on Wednesday, December 3rd. Before the Thanksgiving Holiday break, the Clippers will host East Stroudsburg University on November 22nd and Briarcliffe College on November 24th. When classes resume, the Clippers will be back in action to host the Rams of Philadelphia University on December 1st.
