Women's Basketball Falls to Felician 77-62
Bronxville, NY - Despite tying a season high 17 points from freshman Kayla Koch (Kings Park, NY), the Concordia College women's basketball team lost a non-conference game to the Golden Falcons of Felician College 77-62 last night at the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, NY. Koch also pulled down 7 rebounds and was 6 for 7 (85.7%) from the free throw line.
Sophomore Kasey Grisanti (Bronx, NY) came up a rebound short of a double-double, finishing with 11 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks and 3 steals, while teammate Bonnie DeFina (Maspeth, NY) added 12 points and 3 steals. Sophomore Amanda Eggink (Red Hook, NY) chipped in 9 points and 8 rebounds.
The Clippers held a 4-2 advantage early on in the game until the Golden Falcons scored 14 straight points to take a 16-4 lead with 13:30 left in the opening half. A jumper by Koch ended the scoring run for Felician.
The Clippers were able to get the deficit to single digits on a basket by junior Gianna Zonghetti (Garrison, NY) at the 7:51 mark. However, that would be the closest the Clippers would get as both teams traded baskets the rest of the half and the Golden Falcons took a 40-28 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Clippers went 6 for 34 (17.6%) from the floor in the first half, including 0 for 11 from three point range. Concordia shot well from the free throw line, going 16-20 (80%) in the first 20 minutes of action.
In the second half, the Clippers were able to cut the deficit to 7 points on a 3-pointer by Koch to make the score 41-34. But Felician would put the game out of reach over the next 10 minutes of action by out scoring the Clippers 25-15 to take a commanding 66-49 lead with under 6 minutes left.
The loss brings the Clippers record to 2-15 on the season, while the Golden Falcons improve to 3-14 overall.
Concordia will return to play on Wednesday, January 28th, as they host the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport in an East Coast Conference battle at the Meyer Athletic Center. The game will commence at 5:00 PM.
