Women's Basketball Set to Kick-Off 2007-2008 Season
Central Islip, NY - The Concordia College women's basketball team was voted to finish in 11th place in the women's basketball pre-season poll released by the East Coast Conference office this past weekend.
The Clippers return 10 players from last season's team that finished 1-26 overal and 1-19 in the East Coast Conference. The Clippers are led by sophomore guard Danielle McLaughlin (Staten Island, NY) and sophomore forward Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY), who average 11.7 points per game and 10.5 points per game, respectively. McLaughlin led Concordia in 3-point baskets, shooting for 38% from long distance with 65 three pointers for the season. Rommel led the Clippers in rebounds with 144, averaging just over 5 boards per game. Sophomore guard Brittany Binnie (Middletown, NY) runs the show at point guard for Concordia, finishing last season with 108 assists.
The Clippers will welcome in some new faces this season. Fresnmen Kasey Grisanti (Bronx, NY) and Bonnie DeFina (Maspeth, NY) will look to be immediate contributors to the Clippers offense. Freshman Amanda Eggink (Red Hook, NY) and junior Shari Cordero (Bronx, NY) will give the Clippers an inside presence. Sophomore guard Brittany Johnson (Bronx, NY) will also join the Clippers this season.
Concordia will open the 2007-2008 women's basketball season on
Friday, November 17th, as they travel to Worcester, MA to face the
Skyhawks of Stonehill College in the Marriott Courtyard Classic
Tournament hosted by Assumption College. The Clippers will take on
Stonehill College at 5:30 PM on Friday and face the host Greyhounds
of Assumption College on Saturday at 3:30 PM.
