Women's Basketball Falls to Purple Knights 79-43
Bridgeport, CT - Despite a season high 16 points from freshman Amanda Eggink (Red Hook, NY), the Concordia College women's basketball team was defeated by the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport 79-43 Saturday afternoon at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium in Bridgeport, CT. Eggink shot 55% (6-11) from the floor and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Sophomore Danielle McLaughlin (Staten Island, NY) scored 9 points in just 13 minutes of action. McLaughlin was 3-5 (60%) from 3-point range, accounting for all 9 of her points. Sophomore Brittany Binnie (Middletown, NY) finished with 5 points and 3 assists for the Clippers, while sophomore Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY) and freshman Bonnie DeFina (Maspeth, NY) each chipped in 4 points. Sophomore Giana Zonghetti (Garrison, NY) led the Clippers on the boards with 6 rebounds.
For Bridgeport, Sondra Dziurdzia tallied 16 points on 6-7 (86%) shooting from the court, including a perfect 3-3 from 3-point range. Stephanie Darden turned in a solid performance with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Darden was also a perfect 3-3 from 3-point range. Sidney Parsons and Danielle Bowles each added 10 points for the Purple Knights and teammate Shannon Malone finished with 6 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals.
Concordia drops to 2-24 overall with the loss and 1-18 in the East Coast Conference. The Purple Knights improve to 14-11 overall and 11-7 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers will conclude the 2007-2008 season at the Meyer
Athletic Center on Wednesday, February 27th, as they take on the
Queens College Knights. Earlier this season, the Knights defeated
the Clippers 102-47 in Flushing, NY. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 PM.
