Clippers Stumble Against Lions 73-57
Rockville Centre, NY - Sophomore Brittany Binnie (Middletown, NY) scored a team high 16 points, however, the Lions of Molloy College used a second half surge to pull away from the Clippers 73-57 last night at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, NY. Binnie was a point away from tying her season high of 17 points, which was accomplished Saturday against NYIT. Binnie was 5-9 (56%) from the floor and also added 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Sophomore Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY) finished with 11 points and 9 rebounds and freshman Amanda Eggink (Red Hook, NY) chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds.
For the Lions, Randi Bender scored a game high 24 points. Kymira Woodberry finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Lisa Abitante and Kelly Quackenbush each chipped in 9 points. Abitante led the Lions with 5 assists.
The first half was closely played, as the largest lead for both teams as 6 points. The Clippers went into the locker room trailing 33-31 at the half.
In the second half, the Lions outscored the Clippers 26-7 to take a 59-38 lead in the first 10 minutes of play. A lay-up by freshman Kasey Grisanti (Bronx, NY) cut the deficit to 14 points with 02:52 remaining, but that would be as close as the Clippers would get down the stretch.
The Clippers fall to 2-23 overall and 1-17 in the East Coast Conference. The Lions improve to 14-11 overall and 12-6 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers will travel to Bridgeport, CT on Saturday, February 23rd, as they face the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport. The Purple Knights defeated the Clippers 78-65 on January 16th at the Meyer Athletic Center. The action gets underway at 1:00 PM.
