Rommel's 17 Points Propels Clippers to 55-54 Victory
Bronxville, NY - Sophomore Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY) scored a team high 17 points and pulled down 8 rebounds to lead the Clippers to a 55-54 non-conference victory over the Warriors of Nyack College last night at the Meyer Athletic Center. The Clippers improve to 2-19 overall with the win. Nyack falls to 8-13 on the season.
Rommel shot a season's best 7-9 (78%) from the floor, topping her previous best of 75% in the Clippers first win of the season against the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College on January 30th. Rommel was also a perfect 3-3 from the free throw line and had 3 steals. Sophomore Brittany Binnie (Middletown, NY) had a solid all-around performance with 12 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds for the Clippers. Freshman Bonnie DeFina (Maspeth, NY) scored 8 points, all in the second half, and dished out 3 assists. DeFina sank 2 free throws with 6 seconds left to give the Clippers a 55-51 lead. Senior Danielle Bacon (Levittown, NY) finished with 5 points, 3 assists and 2 rebounds and freshman Amanda Eggink (Red Hook, NY) chipped in 4 points and 7 rebounds.
For the Warriors, Kelsey McIntosh scored a game high 19 points and grabbed 3 rebounds. Tamyra Lathon added 11 points and 9 rebounds and Christy Porter chipped in 8 points and 5 rebounds. Sarah Sauer collected 9 rebounds and Shelly Yount had 8 rebounds for Nyack.
The Clippers will return to ECC action on Wednesday, February
13th, as they host the Pioneers of C.W. Post at the Meyer Athletic
Center. Earlier this season, C. W. Post dismantled the Clippers
82-42 back on January 5, 2008 in Brookville, NY. The game will
begin at 5:00 PM.
