Clippers Come Up Short Against Mavericks 75-73

Dobbs Ferry, NY - Junior Shari Cordero (Bronx, NY) and sophomore Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY) each scored a season high 16 points, however, the Clippers fell short against the Mavericks of Mercy College 75-73 yesterday at Dobbs Ferry High School in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Cordero and Rommel had 7 rebounds and 8 rebounds, respectively. Freshman Amanda Eggink (Red Hook, NY) turned in a solid performanc with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals in a season high 36 minutes of play. Eggink was also a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Sophomore Brittany Binnie (Middletown, NY) finished with 10 points and 9 rebounds and freshman Bonnie DeFina (Maspeth, NY) also scored 10 points. Senior Danielle Bacon (Levittown, NY) chipped in 9 points.

 

 

For Mercy College, Christina Baxter scored a game high 21 points and finished with 9 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Delmara Reece had a monster game with 19 points and 23 rebounds for the Mavericks. Ashley Finnegan had 12 points and 9 rebounds and Ashley Borofsky chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds

The first half saw a close battle, as both teams would trade baskets back and forth. No team would lead by more than 5 points for the first 11:00 minutes of action. The Mavericks led 21-19 before going on a 12-3 scoring run to increase the lead to 33-22 with 06:35 remaining in the opening period. Bacon connected on a 3-pointer and Binnie swished a foul shot to cut the deficit to 33-26 before Mercy closed out the first half outscoring Concordia 12-7 to take a 45-33 advantage into the locker room.

Concordia opened the second half with a 15-2 scoring run. Rommel sparked the run with 7 of her 16 points to give the Clippers a 48-47 lead. Mercy would answer with Reece scoring 10 of her points in a 18-6 scoring run to give the Mavericks a 65-54 lead with 10:21 remaining in the game. Concordia would chip away at the Maverick lead, twice getting it reduced to a single point at 66-65 and the latter, at 70-69 with 01:58 left. A basket by Reece and two foul shots by Finnegan put Mercy up 74-69. Cordero made a lay-up to bring the Clippers within 75-73 with 00:02 second left and would quickly foul. Baxter would miss both free throw attempts. The Clippers got the rebound and Bacon's half-court shot missed as time expired.

The loss drops the Clippers record to 0-8 overall and 0-4 in the East Coast Conference. The Mavericks improve to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the East Coast Conference.

Concordia will close out the first semester of action on Friday, December 14th, as they travel to Oakdale, NY to take on the Golden Lions of Dowling College. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM.
