STAC Pulls Away From Clippers 77-60
Bronxville, NY - The Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College used a second half surge to defeat the Clippers 77-60 this afternoon at the Meyer Athletic Center in Bronxville, NY. The loss drops the Clippers to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the East Coast Conference.
Sophomore Brittany Binnie (Middletown, NY) scored a season high 14 points, pulled down 5 rebounds and had 3 assists for the Clippers. Binnie shot a season high 75% (6-8) from the floor. Senior Danielle Bacon (Levittown, NY) and sophomore Dana Rommel (Staten Island, NY) each finished with 11 points. Bacon led Concordia with 7 rebounds. Freshman Kasey Grisanti (Bronx, NY) chipped in 8 points and 3 rebounds off the bench in just 15 minutes of play.
The Clippers shot a season high 60% (15-25) from the floor in the first half, including 3-4 (75%) from 3-point range. A jumper by Raven Brinkley of STAC made the score 33-21 with just over 5 minutes in the first half. The Clippers then went on a 16-9 scoring run to close out the first half, with Bacon hitting a jumper and a 3-pointer as time expired to cut the deficit to 42-37.
In the second half, the Clippers were unable to continue the hot-shooting performance of the first half, as they were 7-30 (23.3%) in the final 20 minutes. The Spartans pulled away in the second half with Takiyah Ingram hitting a jumper and a couple of 3-pointers to put St. Thomas Aquinas ahead 58-45 with 11:26 left to play. Ingram finished with a game high 22 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Raven Brinkley had a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Claire Wilson added 15 points and Corinne Albrecht chipped in 11 points. The Spartans improve to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the East Coast Conference.
The Clippers will travel to Caldwell, NJ on Monday, December 3rd to face the Cougars of Caldwell College in non-conference action. The game will begin at 6:00 PM.
